XR Dicom Visualizer

Proof of concept for Microsoft HoloLens that implements an extended reality (XR) 3D viewer for medical imaging. The system loads DICOM volumes and segmentation outputs to generate a spatially coherent, layered 3D visualization.

Patient registration can be performed using fiducial markers to align the imaging data with the patient’s physical coordinate system.

The viewer provides per-layer visibility controls and supports real-time manipulation of axial, sagittal, and coronal planes for cross-sectional inspection. Plane transformations and rendering updates occur interactively, allowing immediate visual feedback during navigation.

The prototype demonstrates a workflow for patient-aligned visualization of volumetric scans in mixed reality, with potential applications in surgical planning, guidance, and technical validation of registration methods.
